FAQ
Questions, answered
For students
Are the teachers real people?
Yes. Every teacher is reviewed by our team and records an introduction video before their profile goes live. Lessons are live, one-to-one video calls.
What if the time no longer suits me?
Reschedule the lesson from its page. Your teacher accepts or proposes another time, and the same lesson moves. You do not pay again and you do not lose the lesson.
Can I cancel a lesson?
Instead of cancelling, ShinyTeach uses rescheduling so lessons are not lost. While a request is still waiting for the teacher, you can withdraw it and the credit returns to you.
What happens if the teacher cancels or does not show up?
If the teacher cancels, the lesson credit comes straight back to your balance. If something goes wrong during a lesson, report it within 48 hours and our team reviews it — you never lose a lesson because of the teacher or the platform.
Which currencies can I pay in?
You can pay in euros (EUR), US dollars (USD) or Moroccan dirhams (MAD). The price is converted at the current rate and fixed at the moment you pay.
Do packages expire?
Each package has a validity period shown before you pay (for example 45 days for a monthly package). You can see your remaining lessons at any time in your dashboard.
What do I need for a lesson?
A computer, tablet or phone with a camera, microphone and a recent browser. Join from your dashboard a few minutes early.
Does ShinyTeach use AI?
Only to support learning — for example a level check, revision sheets from your teacher’s notes, or activity ideas for teachers. AI never replaces your teacher.
For teachers
How much do I earn?
You set your own 60-minute price, in euros, dollars or dirhams, within a fair range. You receive 65% of the lesson price and ShinyTeach keeps the rest to run the platform. The payment processing fee is deducted from your share. The rate that applied when the student paid is the rate you are paid.
Why do I need an introduction video?
Students choose people, not listings. A 20–90 second video (30–60 s is ideal) showing who you are, what you teach and how you teach builds trust before the first lesson.
When do I get paid?
Each completed lesson creates an earning in your currency. After a short hold period (to allow students to report problems) it becomes available for payout.
Do I have to accept every request?
No. You accept or decline each request. Unanswered requests expire automatically and the student gets their lesson back.
